ROAD RUNNING

Training

Meeting regularly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, our group caters for all different standards and is aimed at training for middle to long distance running (up to marathon). We start around 7pm. Groups also often meet up for Sunday morning runs.

Competitions

TVH runners take part in many road races throughout the year. A regular e-newsletter is sent to the club’s road runners giving details of forthcoming events and providing a centralised entrance service to races.

TVH ROAD RACE SERIES

TVH runners take part in the annual TVH road race series – “TVH Endurance Cup”. Club members win points for taking part in nominated road-races and trophies are awarded each year. The races are meant to be evenly-spaced through the Summer, fairly easy to access from West London, not too expensive and reasonably well-attended. It includes the two Southern Road Relays and races up to half-marathon distance.

SOUTHERN AND NATIONAL ROAD RELAYS

The road relays are a biannual Southern and National Championships, with the longer 12 and 6 Stage Road Relays for the men and women held in the spring, while the shorter 6 and 4 Stage Road Relays for the men and women are held in the autumn.

Spring Road Relays

For the senior men the spring road relays include the 12 Stage Southern Road Relay Championships at the end of March and the 12 Stage National Road Relay Championships at the beginning of April.

Each men’s team is made up of 12 runners, with 6 long legs each of approximately 8km and 6 short legs each of approximately 5km.

For the senior women the relay championship dates are the same, except they are competing in a 6 Stage Road Relay Championships.

Each women’s team is made up of 6 runners, with 6 legs each of approximately 5km.

In the spring there is no long version of the young athletes road relays for the junior boys and girls teams.

Autumn Road Relays

For the senior men the autumn road relays include the 6 Stage Southern Road Relay Championships at the end of September and the 6 Stage National Road Relay Championships at the beginning of October.

Each men’s team is made up of 6 runners, with 6 legs each of approximately 6km.

For the senior women the relay championship dates are the same, except they are competing in a 4 Stage Road Relay Championships.

Each women’s team is made up of 4 runners, with 4 legs each of approximately 4km.

For the young athletes the southern relay championship dates are the same, except they are competing in a 3 Stage Road Relay for the girls or 4 Stage Road Relay Championships for the boys.

Each girls team is made up of 3 runners and each boys team is made up of 4 runners, with the leg race distances each of approximately 3km.

For the young athletes the national relay championship dates are the same, except they are competing in a 3 Stage Road Relay Championships for the girls and boys.

The club has a long tradition of success in relay racing and older members remember with fondness the now defunct London to Brighton race.
