Young Athletes’ with Strong Finish to Met League

The final Met League fixture at Trent Park was held in atrocious conditions with heavy rain and strong winds. The athletes also had to negotiate a hilly course.

Starting with the under 11 boys race, Reggie Rock started very fast and then managed to keep near the front of the race and came home a magnificent seventh. He is still eligible fot this age group next season. Close behind also having a good race was Conrad Mathews in 12th place. Perhaps the youngest boy in the race, Wilfred Howard-Vyse was having his first race after his recent ninth birthday and had an outstanding debut to finish 16th. Ollie Serat, also nine, finished in 29th place to bring the team home in third position. The team also finished third overall for the season out of 22 teams. Things are looking good for next season with these boys.

Roy Clarridge reports:

With half-term depleting the rest of the Valley team we lost points in the other races. But those who competed for TVH did magnificently. None more than Skye Bishop who was fifth in the under 11 race and finished 14th  overall and is still under 11 next season. Anna Kelly also had her best run of the season to finish 14th. Emmeling Low also did well to finish 28th out of 48 finishers. The team finished in seventh place on the day but were fifth overall out of 22 clubs for the season.

Having his first Met League of the season, Alfie Turner went off a little too fast and paid for it on this hilly course. He did well to come home in 16th place. Morris Rock paced himself well and his 30th place out of 50 boys showed a great improvement. Even so, the team finished 10th and finished the season 13th out of 23 teams.

Sixth place for Lily Dafter in the under 13 girls race was a very good result but she seemed disappointed at the time. I think she finished first overall in her age group over the season which is a great achievement. Well Done! Zenia Gordon, another stalwart for the team finished in 20th place out of 33. Even without a full team they finished fifth and a respectful third overall for the season.

Without Shami, the rest of the team did their best.  Basil Rock was 29th which was his best place this season. In 43rd spot Nelson Gordon had a good finish to hold of Baqar Abamecha who finished 46th out of 59. The team were 12th but finished 11th out of 15 for the season.

Melina Duer was first home back in the under 15 girls race in 29th place, just behind Capucine Rousset who did very well to finish 26th. Lilly Salkeld completed the team in 38th. The team were 11th and 8th overall out of 23 over the season.
