Young Athletes’ Strong Start to the XC Season at Met League
The Valley girls once again showed the club how to perform in the Metropolitan League first fixture of the season. Ava White had an outstanding win in the Under 13 girls race.
This was a great result after all her health and injury problems since last November. After missing the start of her under 11 race, Kate Price ran as a guest in the age group above hers. She also ran outstandingly to finish second Valley girl home in eighth place although she couldn’t score for the team. Melina Duer also ran well to finish 10th just in front of some great packing for the Valley with Lily Salkeld 13th and Olivia Colgrave 16th. The team finished in second place just one point behind the winners, Victoria Park and Tower Hamlets. The B team also had a great result with their sixth place out of 17 teams.
The all conquering Under 15 Girls and Under 17 Women team were sadly short of runners on this occasion. It was left to Alice Harray to be first home in 11th place with Rose Barkle just behind in 16th place and 11th under 15, In 31st place Ashleigh Harewood was our only other finisher. Verity Walker had to drop out with an asthma attack.
If Kate Price had made it for the under 11 race she more than likely would have won it. Instead, we had Aaron Harewood finishing 10th, Lily Dafter 24th and a very good fifth girl place and Camille Rousset 56th, 26th girl. The Under 13 Boys had Basil Rock running a steady 21st and Jude Gunn improved greatly with his 34th place out of 59 finishers.
Louis Medd was determined to have a race even though a foot injury has made him miss the road relays. He finished a determined 34th but should now concentrate on getting over the injury. Oliver Weintraub found it tough in 54th place especially after having some great triathlete results.
