Young Athletes on great form at home Start Fitness Met League
There were encouraging runs from 25 TVH young athletes in action around the Scrubs, including a fine debut from Max Bishop and India Weir who’s back to her winning ways!
For this home fixture the weather was bright with a cold wind but the course was very dry for this time of year.
Roy Clarridge reports:
In the under 17 women/under 15 girls race India Weir left it until the last 150 metres before sprinting away to win the race. With the strong back-up of Verity Walker 11th, Melina Duer 14th and Philippine Poupart-Lafarge 16th the team came home in second place to Shaftesbury. Although we won the first match, Shaftesbury have gained points over the next two matches and look set to win the trophy unless we can get a full team out for the next two matches. Our next four girls brought the ‘B’ team home in 10th place. Having a rare outing Lily Cheshire showed that she enjoyed the race by finishing 27th. Just behind, Capucine Rousset again improved with her 37th place. Elizabeth Biggs had her first race of the season and ran well for 40th place. Making up the team, Charlotte Cooney-Quinn was 47th.
The opening race of the day was also a successful one for TVH. New member Max Bishop surprised us all by finishing second in the under 11 boys race. Then Sol Inglis also ran well for his 11th place. Henry Turner is also improving and his 17th position is another step forward. Jai Sarkar’s 36th place was also encouraging in the field of over 60. To get second team place was a marvellous achievement when we only have a few boys in this age group. We had two girls in their u11 race. Olivia Sparks did very well to be 7th girl and Sasha Reid was 18th.
Another success was our under 13 boys teams finishing 3rd and 13th out of 19 teams. Alfie Turner was first home in 5th place with a rare victory over Basil Rock who had an off day with his 14th place. Charlie Rollo also ran well for 21st place just in front of Aidan Ferrand, 28th, who is not able to compete regularly. Nelson Gordon was not far behind, 34th and Noor-Eldin Mohammed finished 50th.
The Valley under 13 girls team were weakened by having a couple of girls absent through injury and Lily Dafter had very bad stitch and didn’t run to form. This left Olivia Colegrave leading the team home in 14th position with Lily 23rd. Our only other runner was Camille Rousset in 33rd place.
In the mens/boys U17 race we had two runners. Lucillo Burrell had his best run of the season when finishing 5th behind three East African athletes (I think). Nicholas Duer was in the middle of the field with his 37th place.
