Young Athletes battle the elements at Finsbury Park YA League

With many of our young athletes on county duty, TVH still had a good turnout of 14 athletes at a very windy Finsbury Park.

In the U11 Girls 1.5km race, Lily Dafter again demonstrated her impressive speed in the home straight, finishing in 7th place in a closely packed field with Camille Rousset improving with each race in 38th place.

The U11 Boys and U13 Girls raced together over 2.1km in the second race of the day, with 9 TVH athletes taking part and providing us with our best result of the day. In the boys race Alfie Turner made light of the windy conditions to break clear for a comfortable and very impressive 5 secs win in the boys race (and also well clear of the first girls). The other TVH boys didn’t fare so well with Felix Schaap finding it tough going and Noor-Eldin Mahmoud was unfortunately unable to finish after a collision at the start on the narrow course.

There were 6 TVH girls competing in the U13 Girls, led home by Melina Duer with a great run in 2nd place, followed by a group packing well in the top half of the field, Zakia holding off Olivia, Charlie and Freja. Capucine, in common with her sister Camille, has also improved in each race and is now very close to the rest of the team. The team finished in 2nd place, just one point behind the winners, but are well clear in the league competition after comfortable wins at the first two fixtures.

Aidan Ferrand was our only competitor in the U13 Boys 2.9km race as he continues his return from a long injury lay-off and finished well for 11th place out of 31 athletes.

The U15 Boys 3.8km race saw the third top 3 finish of the day for TVH, with Oliver Weintraub going out hard in second place on the first of three laps. Three athletes broke clear on the second lap, with Oliver finishing a close 3rd to two Cookham athletes. Nicholas Duer had a steadier start on the first lap, but also ran well as the race progressed for 7th place out of 20 runners.
