Wins, PBs and a Club Record at the YDL

TVH athletes completed in the 2nd round of the Youth Development League meeting. The small team provided some encouraging performances, with several wins, personal bests and a club record.

Hannah Hall continued her fine form from the Middlesex county championships with personal best winning performances of 12.2 secs in the 100m and 25.1secs in the 200m.  Hannah then joined middle distance runners India and Kosana Weir and Amelia Casey in the 4 x 300m relay and ran a storming final leg, narrowly failing to close a huge gap but the team were rewarded with a new club record.

India Weir followed up a win in the 1500m in 4:45.8 with a 5:07.4 win in the 1500m steeplechase.  Kosana Weir won the ‘B’ 1500m in 4:48.5 and finished second in the 800m, with the fast finishing Amelia Casey winning the ‘B’ 800m.

Diaz Desagurante has been jumping consistently in the long jump and won the event before competing in the triple jump for the first time (under the watchful eye of coach Rez Cameron) and started well, winning with 10.18 metres.

JoJo Akagwa competed well in the throws in her first competition of the season, with personal bests in winning the U17 hammer with 26.18m and third place in the shot with 8.99m.  Another good performance in the shot came from Funmi Ademuwagun, winning with 10.40 metres.

In the men’s competition Funmi’s 15 year old brother Toni  won the high jump with 1.80m, then narrowly failed attempts at 1.90m.  In the long jump there were solid performances from Jakob Ko and Odell Okwuosa, with Jakob then running an impressive 16.9 secs in the 110m hurdles after clattering the penultimate hurdle. Odell is getting used to competing after working night shifts and was narrowly beaten in the triple jump.

Marsin Sesay competed in several events including 2nd place and a further improvement with the 6kg shot with 9.84m.  In the U17 sprints  Ceake Maddix had a huge personal best performance of 11.6 secs, the same time as Amar Aichoun in the U20 ‘B’ race, also a personal best.

In the middle distance races Oli Weintraub continued his improvement in the 3000m, winning the U17 race in 10:10.0 and Louis Marriott ran a pb of 4:31.1 in the 1500m.
