Victory for our U20 women’s team at the Southern XC relays

The South of England cross country relay championships saw a fabulous victory for our under 20 women’s team and a fine fifth place for our B team. Running together with the under 17 women it wasn’t always clear who was in which age group, but both teams were close to the front throughout the race.

Sarah Kebbell and Amelia Casey got the teams off to a great start with Sarah in 2nd, just behind Basingstoke and Amelia not far behind in 4th. Handing over to Izzy Franco and Jasmine Gray on leg 2 both teams moved up such that we were first and second at the final changeover. With several teams putting their strongest runner on the last leg, Jess Dring-Morris fought hard to bring the B team home in 5th place, whilst Charlotte Buckley ran the fastest leg of the day to secure team gold and extend the lead to almost a minute.

All six women ran superbly and will be looking for more success at the national relays in Mansfield on November 2nd. And all are eligible for the race next year, so will be looking to defend the title.

It was also a good day for the senior TVH women. The A team finished in a very strong 5th position. Sarah Johnson, only recently returning from injury, set the team off to an impressive start finishing 7th overall. Victoria Carter had a good run, keeping the team well within the top 10 and Lisa da Silva worked hard to pass three other athletes securing the team a top 5 position finish. The B team opened with a good run from Lara. Louise Jensen, normally an 800m athlete, took on the 3km cross-country event with enthusiasm and ran a great race. Christine completed the team and managed a good run despite having been on her feet volunteering in the café all morning.
