TWO GOLD, ONE SILVER AND ONE BRONZE MEDAL AT THE BRITISH INDOOR CHAMPS

Edmond Amaning (200m) becomes British 200m champion as TVH’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bound ladies shine at the British Indoor Championships held in Birmingham. Zoey Clark (400m) booked her place to the World Indoor Championships with her silver. Molly Caudery (pole vault) wins at her first senior British championships and Amelia Strickler (shot put) wins a bronze medal.

Edmond Amaning powered his way round the tight bends of the Arena Birmingham indoor track to become British indoor 200m champion. Edmond negotiated the heats and semi-final well, saving his best for final with a new indoor personal best of 21.04. In recent years Edmond has been unlucky to be disqualified from these championships after crossing the line first for minor lane infringements but made no mistakes this year. Italian Antonio Infantino made the most of the outside lane to win the race but Edmond won the battle to become British champion by one hundredth of a second that he needed to beat Andrew Morgan-Harrison.

Zoey Clark is having her best ever indoor season, fresh from breaking a 22 year old Scottish national 200m indoor record. Having already gone inside the world indoor qualifying time of 53 seconds in the semi-final Zoey ran a well-controlled race to win a fantastic silver medal lowering her own indoor club record to 52.12. Zoey was close to her fellow Scot and 2017 London World Championship relay silver medallist, Eilidh Doyle who will be joining Zoey at both the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and Commonwealth Games. In the heats of the 400m Aisha Naibe-Wey and Jessica Tappin run indoor personal best times of 55.77 and 56.66 respectively.

The standard of British women’s shot put has really increased since TVH’s Amelia Strickler burst onto the scene in 2017. In a thrilling competition that went down to the wire, Rachel Wallader overhauled Sophie McKinna, who had led since round one with her final throw of the competition for gold, Amelia had to settle for a good bronze. Amelia’s 16.67m was a new indoor club record and we look forward to seeing her compete in April at Commonwealth Games.

Competing in her first senior British Championships, 17 year pole vaulter Molly Caudery posted a first-time clearance and a new indoor best of 4.25m to become British senior champion. Molly was very close to clearing 4.40m and has been progressing well with each competition. Molly competed for TVH as a Higher Competition Athlete (HCA) in our UKWAL winning team last year and will be competing again for TVH this summer. Molly will also be heading to the Gold Coast as England’s youngest athlete and is targeting more success at the World Junior Championship this summer. TVH’s other HCA pole vaulter, Clare Maurer, also did well to clear 3.65m to place 5th.

Subomi Onanuga and Rebecca Campsall all did well but narrowly missed out on the final of the 60m sprints with good runs to get to the semi-finals. Rebecca Campsall was very close to the medals in the 200m as she finished 4th. Even closer to the medals was TVH’s UKWAL team captain Angela Barrett who was just 3cm away from the bronze. Angela also did well in the long jump close to her life time best with 5.91m – Angela is having one of her best ever indoor seasons and we look forward to her leading the team to more success this summer.
