TVH Vets finish 4th at the Millenium Arena
On Monday evening 9th May, Serpentine hosted the first Vets League match at Millenium Arena in Battersea Park. TVH men started the SCVAC series with a small team, missing some regulars unavailable for the first match. This meant the remaining men had a busy evening but still managed to put TVH in 4th place – 1 better than our best finish last season.
Dave Wilkinson opened the scoring in M50’s with a discuss throw of 11.17m placing him 5th, followed by a 4th in the 100m with a time of 14.3 seconds.
Nick Michael arrived just in time from tube delays to get changed and fasten his numbers on the start line for a 5th place 17.2sec in the M60 100m then moving on to a 3rd place in the 400m in 76.9seconds.
Greg Bennett shared 2nd in a three way dead heat M35A 100m in 13.4sec following up with a 61.8sec 400m and a jelly legged 1500m in 5.07.0seconds, both for 4th.
In the the field there was a long jump into 5th with 4.18m and a close 4th in the shot put throwing 7.47m.
Paul Woodgate, turning his attention to the short format after a fantastic London Marathon effort ran 5th in the 35B 100m in 16.6 before an excellent 2nd place in the 2000m walk, warming him up nicely for a 74.3 5th in the 400m leading on to a tough 1500m 4th in 5.21.7.
John Husbands took time out from officiating to join Greg, Dave and Paul to run the 4×400 relay with TVH finishing 5th.
Well done to the team for getting stuck in and giving us our best result yet and I hope the shredded calves and tweaked hamstrings are healing nicely.
Next match is on Monday June the 6th at Hillingdon and it would be great to get a big(ger) turn out and take our points tally even higher.
