TVH Remembers Ray Newman and Roger Pedrick
We have received the sad news of the passing of two fantastic and dedicated TVH athletes from yesteryear, Ray Newman and Roger Pedrick.
Ray was an amateur boxer before taking up running and won the North of the Thames cross country race in his first year in the club. He was a regular member of our cross country, track and road relay teams, running all of the London to Brighton road relays from 1958 to 1961. This was an event that TVH won several times in the period from 1955 to 1960, with Ray taking on the responsibility of running the opening leg. Ray’s funeral will take place on the 14th March in Wokingham, details available from Barrie Saunders.
Roger competed in the 800m for TVH in the 1960s and after moving to Australia he was a dedicated athlete and coach for many years. Roger competed and coached for another Harriers club – Adelaide, and then helped set up a new club in the Adelaide Hills (Hills District AC) and also coached in local schools.
