TVH in the top half of the SAL table with 1 match to go

SAL Division 1, Match 4, Norman Park, Bromley, Saturday July 13 :

Following on from a successful double win for the ladies in the UKWAL match and men in the BAL match at Eton last Saturday, the Valley ladies and men joined forces to produce another very good performance to finish in 2nd place in Saturday’s Southern League match at Bromley.
It was a very close match with TVH finishing just 1 point ahead of 3rd place and 8 points ahead of 4th place, so every point was important on the day.

With this in mind and with so many people missing for this Southern League match due to other competitions and injuries it meant that everyone on the team had a part to play.

Many people covered a number of events in addition to their usual events to score valuable points for the team.

For the Valley men Florian Vogel covered all 4 throws on the field, Abdi Mohamed raced in the 400m, 800m, 1500m and mixed 4x400m relay on the track, Laurence Owen jumped in the long jump and then teamed-up with new addition to the team James Grindle for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, and Ben Morgan competed in an amazing mini-decathlon of 6 events in the 400MH, mixed 4x400m relay, high jump, triple jump, discus and pole vault.

Triple jumper Armani James also had an impressive day with wins in the A string triple jump, B string long jump and revealed a hidden talent for the shot to win the A string shot with a 11.64m pb.

The TVH men had a good number of top 2 finishes in many events, including wins for the mixed 4x400m A string relay team in 3:41.36, Olivier Wijtenburg in the B string 800m in 1:59.61, Michael Adekunle in the A string high jump with 1.93m, and a hat-trick of wins for Armani James in the A string triple jump with 13.79m, B string long jump with 6.01m and A string shot with 11.64m pb.

Making their SAL debut on Saturday were brothers Harry and James Grindle, unfortunately Harry aggravated a previous injury while warming-up and couldn’t compete, but younger brother James had a great day with 2 pb’s and 2nd place in the B string 100m in 11.31s and A string 200m in 22.80s, plus the final leg and 2nd place in the 4x100m relay.

James Horrex also made his SAL debut with 2nd place in the B string 3000m, along with brother Thomas making his debut in the non-scoring 1500m and Shami Umashankar on his debut in the non-scoring 800m and 1500m.

There were also a good many more pb’s for the Valley men, including Daniel Garcia-Rasines 3rd place in the A string 3000m in 8:59.73, Ben Morgan 2nd in the B string triple jump with 11.39m pb and 4th in the A string discus with 30.67m pb, and Stan Vilga 4th in B string hammer with 16.71m pb.

The TVH SAL Man of the Match award was won by Abdi Mohamed, for 2nd place in the A string 800m in 1:57.09, followed by a 52.29s pb for 2nd in the B string 400m, a 4:04.26 pb for 2nd in the A string 1500m and the final leg in the winning mixed 4x400m A string relay team.

On the women’s side, Dominika Brooks made her debut for TVH competing in the 400m B string race running 63.61 for a PB. Well done Dominika!

There were impressive performances by Nancy Sousa that took the win in the A string Javelin with 38.12 and also the B string shot. Rosie Vallance also won top points in the A string 1500m Steeplechase running 5:55! Jess Tappin topped the A string 200m with 24.74 whilst Angelita topped the 100mH A string in 13.70 and the 100m B string in 12.35 ensuring great points for TVH. Katie Olding also did the douple topping the 800m and 1500m A string with 2:20 and 4:57 respectively. Angela topped the High jump A string with 1.48m as well as the B string Javelin.

In addition there were plenty of PB’s  and SB’s for the women throughout the day. PB performances included: Jasmin Taylor in the 200m (26.98), Dominika Brooks in the 400m, Fran Lou in the 5000m (21:13) and 1500 steeple (6:41) alongside Rosie Vallance in the A strong (5:55).
