TVH Athletes win Team Gold at Inter Counties

After heavy rain on Friday the venue was extremely wet and muddy at Loughborough for the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships. All 12 TVH’s athletes did extremely well in challenging conditions.
The highlight was Middlesex senior men, managed by TVH’s Phil Wetton, winning team gold. TVH’s Chris Smith was back to great form coming home second scorer in an excellent 17th place. James Ellis backed up his fine run at the Nationals two weeks earlier with another very good run coming home in 95th place.
The ladies and girls Middlesex teams have also been in very well managed by TVH’s Jeane Browne for many years. The sole TVH representative in the senior women’s race was Sarah Johnson who had a strong race to finish in 61st place as the Middlesex finished as one of the top counties in the UK in eight.
In the junior races, TVH had the first Middlesex Man home in the Under 20’s Jake Hooley was 91st and Max Buckley was the fourth scorer as the team finished 20th.
Likewise in the Under 20 Women’s event, Kosana Weir led the team home in 26th place. India was fourth scorer in 69th place to bring the team home ninth.
TVH had five members of Middlesex County young athletes teams at Loughborough.
In the under 13 girls we had Kate Price who was a magnificent 33rd and the second Middlesex girl and Charlotte was the last Middlesex girl although she will still be under 13 next year. The team finished in eighth place, which was a good result.
TVH also had two representatives in the under 15 boys event. Abdikifi Abdi was the fifth Middlesex boy home and Shami Umanaskar unfortunately lost his shoes in the mud but did well to complete the Middlesex team.
Charlotte Buckley who has had a restricted cross country season was selected by the retiring team manager Jean Browne on past performances. She had her best run or the winter to be the second Middlesex woman home in the under 17 race. The team finished in eighth place.
Congratulations to all TVH athletes and team managers that did so well for their county.
