Siana Jones reports:
Despite sickness and injury plighting several team members over the final months of the XC season, the TVH ladies made it to a top ten team position in the National XC championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday. The conditions fell nothing short of the reputable standard at Parliament hill. Nevertheless, eight tough runners completed the 8km race with the 4 scoring athletes coming well within the top 200.
In a field of 865 who finished the course, Tracy Barlow and Lisa Da Silva finished almost together in their best ever National finishing positions in 45th (33:40) and 46th (33:44) position respectively. A welcome return to the team, Sheena Allport (nee Murphy) was not far behind them in 77th (34:44). Joanna Mobed, in her first run back from injury, finished in a great 180th (37:48). Just outside the scoring 4, a short way behind followed Maire Gorman in 214th (38:50) and Siana Jones came 271st (39:53) who have also been forced to miss some training in recent weeks. Jess Bass also ran well in 468th (44:01) and Christine Munden 851st (1:02:34).
Also, well done to a regular attendee at our Tuesday training sessions, Sarah Johnson. Although running for her first claim club, she came 37th in 33:20.
The ladies were 8th team overall out of 93 teams with 348 points, in front of London Heathside and Highgate harriers. 8th in the National is TVH’s best ever result but only a few points from Herne Hill (who TVH beat to the medals in the Southerns) in 4th – watch out for this fantastic ladies team who will be winning team medals at National competitions in the near future. What a great finish to another excellent season from TVH ladies team.
