Strong Individual and Team Results for TVH Young Athletes at South of England Road Relays
The South of England Road Relays had a lovely dry day for these Championships. The first relay was for the under 13 girls. Unfortunately Thames Valley Harriers only had two runners competing. Freja Scaap did well to finish 36th out of the 80 teams who started. Then Charlotte Buckley ran the fastest lap of the day, 8:05, and picked up 28 places to bring the team up to 8th position. She was not awarded the fastest lap medal because it has to be won by a girl in a complete team.
The under 15 girls race saw TVH ‘A’ team finish in a magnificent 5th place. Another club best for this event. Led by Verity Walker, she sent the Valley off to a good start by finishing 13th out of the 87 teams. Then Kosana Weir improved the team position to 10th. India Weir then gained another five places to finish 5th. The most pleasing achievement was beating Bracknell AC and Herne Hill who have dominated these races recently. The ‘B’ team were unfortunate to lose Alice Harray due to illness. Last year she was tripped over so Aldershot has not been kind to her. This meant that the team had to bring in Sarah Goodhart on the first lap. She did her best but finished down the field in 75 place out of 88 runners. Olivia made up 24 places to finish 51st. Then Matilda Ferrand gained another two for 49th place. Due to Sarah moving up, the ‘C’ team were a runner short. Rose Barkle did well to finish 60th and Rosie Vallance did even better to pick up 15 places and finish 45th.
Another incomplete team had under 17 Isabel Dye finishing 7th on the first lap. She was 14th fastest runner in her race. Eve Goodhart had another good run to finish in 9th place on lap two.
The under 15 boys team of four performed well without two of their top runners. Louis Medd had a good first lap and finished 25th out of 53 teams. Then Nicholas Duer did well to only lose four places. 800m runner Ebou Nije managed to hold his position before handing over to Jake Hooley who picked up a place for the team to finish 28th. Oliver Weintraub had a lone runner for the ‘B’ but finished strongly.
Alex Khlaf adapted to his second sport admirably, and was thrown into the deep end
To run the first lap of the under 17 relay. He battled his way round to finish 34th out of 44 starters. His other sport is kayaking! Cassius Rathbone improved to 27th before Kieran Lyons dropped back to 36th.
