Southern Inter-Counties Championships
Thames Valley Harriers had nine young athletes representing Middlesex in the Southern Inter-Counties Championships in Oxford. Charlotte Buckley led the under 13 girls team home to a magnificent second place. She had her usual steady start and worked her way up to third place after negotiating an 800m trail of deep mud. With the finish in sight she then went away to win the race by five seconds. This was her best win of the season against most of the top girls in the South of England.
The other TVH runners had mixed results especially the under 15 girls. Kosana Weir had a very good run to finish 15th but India and Verity both had bad days and were well below their expected positions. India has not recovered from a sprained ankle and Verity is an asthma sufferer and the cold air caused her problems. Olivia Olsher did well to be inside the first 50 but Alice Harray hadn’t got over her cold and was forced to drop out with breathing difficulties. At one time in the under 15 boys race Lucillo Burrell was the leading Middlesex runner but he was passed by one team-mate and ended up in a very good 14th place.
Out two under 17’s were both in the county scoring teams. Karim Mahiddine finished 28th and was the fourth scorer in the team which just missed out of medals with their fourth place. Eve Goodhart was 48th and third scorer in the U17 women’s race.
