Southern Athletics League Match 4 Report

The final weekend of summer meant one thing – our last SAL match of the season! We headed over to Woking (donning our fresh Adidas kit), hoping to maintain our winning streak, and clinch the overall SAL title for the second year in a row.
Competing at their home stadium, Woking AC proved fierce rivals, but it wasn’t long until the TVH victories started rolling in. The winning streak started with Chris, Alex and Maya taking first place in the 800m races with rapid sprint finishes and well placed tactics.
TVH men’s domination of the track continued all day, with decisive victories from Niki and Tom in 1500m, Jake in the 3K, Rob in the 110m hurdles, and Ollie Newton in the 2k steeple. Thanks to outstanding runs from Danny, Owen, and Josh, the men won all of the short sprints, culminating in an impressive victory in the 4X100m.
It was a fantastic day for our female sprinters too, clean sweeping the 200 and 400s – with the 400 girls (Mia and Tasha B) dominant winning their individual strings by 2.5s each. On the endurance side, Tash M took the win in the 1500m steeple, and Emma ran to a second place in the B-string, after volunteering to step in just 40 minutes before!
As always, our amazing field eventers did us proud, as we swept victories in both strings of the men’s long jump, triple jump, shotput and discus! Big shoutouts to both Joels, Andre, Gavin, Lewis and Ochuko for their huge performances. The dream team of Sophie, Kerisha, and Pippa shared wins across shot put, discus, hammer and javelin, gaining us valuable points – with Pippa getting a big javelin PB along the way!
MoTM: Owen Keenlyside, for his unbeatable runs in the 100m (10.47s), 200m (21.06s), and his first ever 4X400m leg!
WoTM: Kerisha Patterson, for her impressive throws in the shot, discus, and hammer throughout the entire season.
It was another successful day out for TVH, and our tally of 318 points saw us cruise to an enormous 70 points victory! Not only did we win the match, but we won the overall SAL title for the second year in a row – a fantastic achievement!
It’s been a long season of training, competing (and cheering!), and there have been numerous obstacles along the way. But our amazing TVH athletes have overcome injury, battled through illness, and competed in rain-storms and heatwaves, to secure the well-deserved title of SAL champions! An enormous thank you to everyone who’s competed, all the parents who have supported, and of course our amazing coaches and officials! It’s been a brilliant year, and we hope you’re as proud of yourselves and TVH, as we are of you! Now to look forward to a brief break, before we do it all again next year….!
