Six TVH ladies compete at the Manchester International

Six TVH ladies competed at the Manchester International between England, Scotland, Wales, Ulster & Northern Ireland, Great Britain & NI Juniors, UK Armed Forces and the combined British Athletics League/ UK Women’s Athletics League teams.

The inaugural Manchester International saw the crowd enthusing over the action on the track and in the field as many athletes made the most of the opportunity to post impressive end of season performances.

The England team won the competition with their athletes selected based on performances at the England Championships. Angelita Broadbelt-Blake was one of the individual winners from the England team with a fine 13.53 run over the 100m hurdles. England shot putt champion, Danielle Opara, also ended her season in great style with 2nd place with a very good 14.08m.

The UK Women’s Athletics League team was captained by TVH’s Angela Barrett and managed by Manuel da Silva – they finished a fantastic 2nd overall, 5 points ahead of a strong GB juniors team. Triple jumper, Angela Barrett opted to do the long jump in search of a 6m jump having jumped 5.96m at the final UKWAL match four days before. With the ladies long jump being one of the first field events, the EDM was playing up a little as Angela Barrett finished 5th with 5.50m (a jumped if measured correctly would have been much closer to 6m). Pippa Rogan also was a little disappointed with her final clearance of 1.68m to finish outside the medals in 4th place. Pippa’s club record of 1.80m from the final UKWAL would have won the competition. The final TVH representative for the select UKWAL was Izzie Stanway as she returns from injury. Izzie ran a very good 2nd leg of the 4x100m team that finished 5th in a good time of 47.64.

Katie Lambert represented the GB Juniors team in the hammer. The competition was won by Canadian Commonwealth Games champion from Glasgow 2014, Sultana Frizell. With another very good throw of 54.34m, Katie finished in a good 6th in against top class competition.

Overall it was a very well run international competition and we look forward to seeing even more TVH athletes competing in the future.
