NW London Young Athletes League Cross Country: Ava White wins U13 Race

NW London YA League, 26th Sept, Berkeley Fields, Greenford

The opening North West London YA cross country match of the season started promisingly with an individual win in the Under 13 girls race by Ava White and also a team win backed up with sixth place by the ‘B’ team.

Ava led the race from start to finish and won comfortably by eight seconds. Also showing that she has the ability to do well, Philippine Poupart-Lafarge had her best race so far to finish fourth. With Charlotte Cooney-Quinn also improving and coming in 10th the ‘A’ team won by eight points. Just behind Charlotte in 11th place Melina Duer led the ‘B’ team home in sixth place out of 11 teams. Olivia Colgrave was having her first race and will improve on her 18th position. Further back, three Valley girls raced each other with Eloise Turnbull 30th, Sofi Panourgias 31st and Capucine Rousset 32nd.

The Under 11 Girls had Lily Dafter finish 10th out of 40 girls and Camille Rousset 30th. Lone TVH runner in the Under 15 girls race Rose Barkle also did well to finish in the top 10 with her seventh place. In the usual small field of Under 17 women our two girls, Rosie Vallance, fourth and Elizabeth Biggs eighth were the second team home.

For the boys, it was good to have complete teams for their Under 11 and Under 13 races. Best performance came from Alfie Turner who was leading the Under 11s until he miss-timed his finish and came in second three seconds behind the winner. In 19th place Ben Moon ran well to beat Charlie Rollo (22nd) and old rival Otto Huber (24th) in the biggest field of the day where 48 finished. The team were a very good 3rd out of 10 clubs.

Basil Rock led the boys under 13’s team home in 11th place closely followed by Hector Sheppard in 14th. Further down the field Bill Fradgley finished 39th after playing rugby in a school match in the morning and Jude Gunn was our last scorer in 43rd place. In the Under 15 boys race we only had Nicholas Duer taking part and his 16th place was a good effort in a field of 36.
