National Athletics League Awards and South of England Cross Country Relays
TVH welcomed athletes on Saturday 23rd October for the Southern cross country relays, the first event that we have been able to host on Wormwood Scrubs since February 2020. Teams of 4 men competed over a 4km course and teams of 3 women and young athletes raced over 3km and 2km courses.
The best TVH performance of the day came on the 1st leg of the women’s race from Alex Mundell covering the 3km course in 10:39, the 3rd fastest athlete in the race and leading the TVH team with Lisa da Silva and Lara Sterritt to 4th place. We had 4 teams starting the race, Joanna Mobed ran the quickest time in the ‘B’ team who were also well up the field in 13th out of 33 complete teams.
The TVH men also started 4 teams, the ‘A’ team finishing 7th out of 32 completed teams, Michael Cameron (11:46) on the last leg and Chris Thomas (11:53) the quickest on the team.
The U20 & U17 age groups ran together over the same 3km course as the senior women, Basil Rock and Izzy Franco were the quickest of the TVH junior men and women. The U15 and U13 teams ran over the shortest 2km leg course, Cameron McConnon (6:34) was the quickest TVH young athlete running the last leg in the U15 race following Reggie Rock (7:12) and Harry Greenfields (7:23) and helping the team to 10th place. The U15 Girls started 3 teams with Anna Kelly (7:55), Charlotte Brown (8:07) and Kyra Gulamhuseinwala (8:08) the fastest. We have far less athletes in the U13 Girls age group but finished a team with Kyra’s sister Salima running her first race for the club with Farrah Ceric and Xanthe Greenfields.
National Athletics League Awards
Manuel & Lisa da Silva and our Chairman Robert Datnow headed to Birmingham straight from the relays at Wormwood Scrubs for an England Athletics awards evening and the presentation of the inaugural National Athletics League Premiership trophy to TVH. Other TVH NAL athletes present to receive the award were Amelia Strickler, Pippa Rogan, Gavin Johnson-Assoon, Andrew Ajube and Chris McAlister.
Awards were also presented for the best performances in the National Athletics League by male and female athletes in track events and field events. TVH athletes won two of the four awards, Amelia presented with the best field athlete award and Chris the best track athlete award.
