Mo Aadan and Tracy Barlow help TVH to top 10 places at Southern Road Relays.
South of England Road Relays Crystal Palace Sunday 23rd September 2018
Mo Aadan and Tracy Barlow helped the TVH men’s and women’s teams both finish in 9th place at the autumn Southern Road Relays as they prepare for the Commonwealth Half Marathon in Cardiff on October 7th.
Mo ran the first leg in the men’s 6 stage team, breaking away on the 2nd lap of the 6.1km course and running the fastest time of the day. Michael Cameron had the difficult job of taking over in the lead, but kept the team well placed before handing over to Antonio Silva who ran the 2nd fastest time of the TVH team. Veteran mountain runner Chris Smith took over on the 4th leg moving the up two places, followed by strong runs by Chris Thomas on the 5th leg and late addition to the team Sayed Yusuf on the final leg.
Tracy ran the last of the 4.8km legs in the women’s 4 stage team, moving up in to the top 10 after being well set up by Izzy Dye on the 1st leg (2nd fastest TVH), team manager Lisa da Silva on the 2nd leg and Victoria Carter on the 3rd leg. Joanna Mobed was the fastest runner in the TVH women’s B team.
TVH had 3 teams in the men’s race – with Abdi Mohamed the fastest in the B team, 10 seconds faster than an impressive run from Sage Pearce-Higgins just 7 days after running the Berlin Marathon in 2 hrs 38 mins and 2 teams in the over 40s veteran race with Andrew Mitchell fastest for TVH.
The Young Athletes had the worst of the weather at Crystal Palace with heavy rain and a flooded start / finish area on the track throughout the morning races, clearing for the senior races with pleasant sunny conditions in the afternoon. The boys races had teams of four athletes, the girls races teams of three, all running the same 3.1km circuit around the park with a couple of testing hills, starting and finishing on the waterlogged track.
The U13 Boys was the first race and our best result with Sol Inglis, Morris Rock, Rory McConnon and Cameron McConnon finishing 17th from 50 teams to start. Sol got the team off to a great start in 10th place on the first leg and Cameron finished well on the last leg.
The U13 Girls race started 5 mins later with the ‘A’ team of Charlotte Edge, Thea Almqvist-Dutton and Sofia Capelli finishing 26th from 60 teams to start with Charlotte running very well on the first leg. Unfortunately injuries during the week meant we had an incomplete ‘B’ team with Sasha Mueller and Maya Sutaria.
In the U15 Girls race Olivia Colegrave, Lily Dafter and ZeniaGordon finished 43rd from the 74 teams that started, with Lily on the 2nd leg the fastest on the team by 1 sec from Olivia. The U17 Women’s team of Niamh Murphy, Melina Duer and Capucine Rousset finished 24th from the 50 teams that started with Niamh the quickest on the competitive 1st leg.
The U15 Boys team was unfortunately incomplete and after Charlie Rollo was troubled with a foot problem on the 1st leg, Basil Rock and Alfie Turner picked up a few places on the 2nd and 3rd legs.
Our fastest boy on the day was Sol and our fastest girl was Niamh, just beating Charlotte’s time from earlier in the day.
