Medals for TVH Young Athletes at the Middlesex Road Relays

Good results again at the Middlesex Road Relays and under 11 road races. One first place, two second places and one third place. The TVH young athletes once again started the winter season in good spirits.

In the under 11 girls race we had a second place winner for the third consecutive time, Skyla Robertson did remarkably well considering it was her first appearance. She was only one second behind the winner. We also had a great turn-out in the boys race with seven competing.

The under 13 girls lived up to their high hopes by leading their relay race throughout, winning by 43 seconds. Lily Dafter gave us a tremendous start while Charlotte Edge and Kate Price improved our lead on their laps. For the ‘B’ team, Aramay Robertson did very well to finish 3rd and then Sophia Cappelli lost a few places in her first distance race to finish 6th. Then Olivia Sparks did well to bring the team up to 4th place. ‘C’ team Charlotte Long finished 7th and Angel Acheampong had a great run to make up a lot of ground but was still in 7th place. Zenia Gordon was disappointed with her run and dropped places to finish 8th. Analiesse Schoenen was a lone runner for the ‘D’ team and did very well to finish in 5th place on the first lap but had no one to hand over to. No other club had anywhere near our numbers and we had at least four girls not taking part.

Running at the same time as the girls the under 13 boys also did remarkably well to get second place. Alfie Turner had a strong second circuit to bring him home in 6th place. Charlie Rollo continued to keep in contention by finishing 4th. Then Max Bishop ran the fastest Valley time to pass two clubs and bring the team home second. He was rewarded with the 5th fastest time in his race. Our incomplete ‘B’ team had Morris Rock having a steady run and Andrew Schoenen running well in his first appearance for TVH.

Our under 15 girls came away with a surprise third place. First lap had Philippine Poupart-Lafarge mixing it with the leading girls and finishing 5th. Madeleine Casey kept the team in contention and Niamh Murphy also ran well for the team to finish 3rd. The ‘B’ team first runner, Olivia Colegrave did really well to only finish one place behind Phillipine. Capucine Rousset lost a bit of ground but Freja Schaap ran well for the team to finish 5th. Charlie Cooney-Quinn was unfortunate to be our only ‘C’ runner and ran with an injury which didn’t help! For the boys, Shami Umashankar had his eyes opened by the speed of his rivals but still managed 7th spot at the end of his leg. Luke Walsh was a bit rusty after the hols but Basil Rock, who had been to a holiday athletics club had a good run to bring the team home 5th. With the lack of under 15 boys in the club it was very encouraging to have a full ‘B’ team running. Nelson Gordon was 15th on the first lap. Aidan Ferrand ran 19 seconds faster than last year but stayed in 15th place. On lap 3 there were many drop outs which enabled Beau Beale to bring the team home in 9th place.

Charlotte Buckley led the under 17 women’s team home on the first lap even though she had represented Middlesex on the track the previous day. Amelia Casey had a really good run to keep in front on the second lap. Then Margaux Couffon had two very good runners pass her. The Highgate women won the team race and the Shaftesbury team who also passed her were in the Hertfordshire championships. So therefore our women were second. An incomplete ‘B’team had Lily Cheshire on the first lap and Arianna Alonso-Bizzi, having her first road relay and thoroughly enjoying it on the second. My big disappointment was that two u17 men did not appear. Which left Eduard Long, having his first TVH race, a lone runner. He finished up with the 3rd fastest time in the race. I think he was pleased with his run as he finished 3rd fastest Middlesex athlete on the first lap.
