Four Individual Wins and Team Victory for U15 Boys at NWL YA League

Mohmed Abdi was making his first TVH appearance in the Boys Under 15 NW London League race. His appearance was a surprise to the team manager when he arrived at Fryant Park as he only joined the club the previous Tuesday.

Not only did he turn up but then went on to win his race. With Shami Umashankar he led from the start and finally moved away at the finish and Shami also having his best race so far, finished second. Not to be outdone by them, Basil Rock chased them all the way and finished fourth with his improved run. He was 13th in the first match. With Luke Walsh finishing 12th and Nelson Gordon, 14th out of the 39 competitors they easily won the team race by 24 points.

Also winning her under 13 race, Kate Price was soon in the lead and was a very impressive winner. Sasha Mueller who had won the under 11 race last year also decided that she liked the course and moved through during the race to finish eighth. Another improvement came from Zenia Gordon who’s 11th place just pipped Lily Dafter to the line. The team just lost out by one point to winning the race. The ‘B’ team finished 5th with Lily in 12th place and Sofia Cappelli finishing 21st. Maisie Hugill was pleased with her first race as she finished 22nd out of 45 girls,

Our third winner was Amelia Casey who was a class above the rest of the field when she won the under 17 women’s race by 21 seconds. The under 15 girls also had a good result when finishing second team to Highgate. Melina Duer is coming back to full fitness as she was in second place at the finish. Maddie Casey was just outside the top 10 with her good 11th place. Camille Rousset’s 14th place was down on the previous race but was still a good run. In 23rd place, Charlie Cooney-Quinn also ran a better race than expected after her leg injury.

Unfortunately Skye Bishop was our only runner in the under 11 girls race. She was up against some girls a year older than her and to finish sixth showed her great determination.

Disaster struck for Reginald Rock at the start of the under 11 boys race. Due to the narrow start, he was unfortunate to be pushed over and was unable to continue the race. In the previous match he had finished in third place. This time George Kimble also finished third. Henry Turner thought he’d had a bad run when finishing 13th. He was disappointed with his race but looking at the results he should be pleased with his place out of 43 finishers. Dylan Bilboul was another who did well against much bigger boys. The team’s fourth place was no disgrace despite Reggies disappointment.

Due to half-term and injuries the under 13 boys only had two Valley runners. Morris Rock was 22nd which was in the top half of the field and Otto Huber was 34th. Max Bishop’s pillow fight proved costly as the team only finished 11th out of 14 teams.

Nicholas Duer may think his under 17 race wasn’t his best. But at the end of the season, his participation may be vital to the points gained by TVH.
