Four Double Gold winners at County Championships

The TVH young athletes had a successful weekend at Lee Valley on Saturday and Sunday.

Of the four double winners, the most unexpected was under 15 Harvey Kitchen getting to grips with the Long Jump and producing 5.19 one centimetre off his PB and his 80m Hurdles wins. On Saturday Kosana Weir showed an impressive sprint finish to win both the 800m and the 1500m under 17 Women’s titles. Hannah Hall was also a clear winner in the 100m and the 200m. In the under 15 boys shot Jahreem Charles won with an impressive 11.50 and he followed it up with a 35.34 throw to win the Discus.

Having another successful day, working on her speed by doing the 200m and 300m, Charlotte Buckley finished with a full set of medals: 200m 3rd; 300m 2nd; 800m 1st. Under 13 Zakia Mossi showed great potential when easily winning the 800m and a fine turn of speed against much taller girls when coming 4th in the 100m. Another unexpected winner was under 13 Basil Rock in the 1500, beating a boy who had achieved better results in the cross country season. Other boys in the u13 race were Alfie Turner who finished 5th and Charlie Rollo, 8th.

India Weir had little opposition in the 3000m but the battle came from a 3 metre head wind in the back strait. In 2nd place Verity Walker also paced well to get silver. Another 3000m silver was won by Oliver Weintraub who earlier had run in the 800m as a warm-up, just behind Nicholas Duer who was 6th. Also in the 800m with Kosana were Alice Harray who did well to win bronze and Amelia Casey was 5th. Alice was also 4th in the 1500m.

The Sunday 1500m races were very exciting to watch. The Under 15 girls race was invaded by two girls from Blackheath and after Ava White had led until the bell they produced blistering last laps and left Ava to finish 3rd. Fine runs by Melina Duer, 5th and new member Lily Cheshire, 7th, Niamh Murphy, 10th and Capucine Rousset 15th were given full encouragement by the TVH supporters. Again we had plenty to cheer in the under 13 1500m. Kate Price, age 11 was having her first 1500m race and 6th place was a brilliant start for her. In 9th place Olivia Colegrave had a very fast finish and Lily Dafter, 10th also finished fast. Eva-Marie Weintraub was just behind her in 11th place and Camille Rousset received our encouragement in 12th place.

Our other under 17 medals were Toni Ademuwagun who won the HJ and Jaye Haley who was 2nd in the 300m, Charlotte Cooney-Quinn won silver in the 75m hurdles. She was also 7th in the 800m and Lily Salkeld was 8th. Lily just missed a medal when she was 4th in the Long Jump. Lily Dafter was 5th in the HJ. Malachi Boyce also just missed a medal when he was 4th in the u17M 100m.
