Three Silver medals at British Indoor Championships

The British Indoor Championships held in Sheffiled saw three TVH athletes win silver medals, Angela Barrett (triple jump), Lorraine Ugen (long jump) and Montene Speight (400m).
Angela Barrett put in a fine series of jumps in the triple jump with all six jumps 12.70m or over. Angela’s best of 13.03m won her a well-deserved silver medal. In the same event, Imperial college medical student, Montana Jackson, had her best ever competition to finish 5th with a new life time best distance of 12.55m, an improvement of 11cm from her best the previous weekend at the British universities championships.
Lorraine Ugne was a little down on her season’s best, her solid 6.60m leap in the long jump was good enough for 2nd and confirm her place in the Great Britain team for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, USA on 17-20 March. Lorraine who is the World Indoor Tour long jump champion for 2016 will be looking for more success in Portland and at the Rio Olympics later in the year.
Montene Speight won her first British Championship medal will a determined run in the 400m with a final time of 53.48.
The 60m saw 17 year old Brittany Robinson make her British Championship senior debut and did well to reach the semi-final where she ran close to her personal best with 7.81. Clieo Stephenson picked up a slight leg injury over the weekend but still ran well to finish 4th in her semi-final with 7.68.
400m hurdler, Chris McAlister, was again close to another personal best in the 400m and did well to make the semi-final. Luke Lennon-Ford was unlucky miss out on the 400m final when he was disqualified for a minor lane infringement in his semi-final.
Heptathlete, Jessica Tappin, made her first appearance on the track this year with a good run out in the 60m hurdles.
Danielle Opara was another one of TVH’s university students returning to Sheffield for her second consecutive weekend of competition. Danielle was close to her season’s best in the shot putt, finishing 6th with 13.62m
