Virtual Races and Training Sessions

Virtual Races and Training Sessions – one way of keeping  fit and motivated during lockdown is taking part in a virtual race or training session using GPS to compile or compare times.

The national road relays with teams of 12 in the men’s race and 6 in the women’s race were due to take place on 4th April.  A virtual road relay race was organised by opentrack with all runners recording a 5km run on running apps under strict instructions to run at quiet times and abide by social distancing rules. The ‘race’ has also raised more than £9,000 for the NHS so far and attracted 4 times as many runners as would normally compete at Sutton Park and the TVH teams included Rob Collins in Australia,  Silvio Barandun in Switzerland and Mihaly Ormay in Hungary.

Our virtual ‘A’ team finished just outside the top 10 with some impressive performances given the circumstances. Antonio Silva recorded the quickest time for the Virtual Valley, closely followed by Chris Thomas, Myles Edwards was just outside his 5k PB, James Ellis is back running well after 2 triathlon bike accidents and Andrew Mitchell recorded the 5th fastest M50 time.

A total of 21 Valley men and 2 Valley women took part, well done to all, keep training safely.
