Autumn Road Season – Good Start for Young Athletes

Autumn Road Season –  Good Start for Young Athletes

Great North Run  Sunday 9th September 2018

Mohamud Aadan arrived at the start line of the Great North Run half marathon after his preparations were disrupted by illness, so 9th place (2nd GB) in a time of 63:59 was a good result.  Mo now has time to return to full fitness for the inaugural Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff on Sunday 7th Oct where he will be running in the England men’s team and  Tracy Barlow in the England women’s team.

Middlesex  Young Athletes Road Relays Sunday 9th September 2018

Another good start to the winter road relay season. Although TVH only had one winner, Skye Bishop in the Under 11 girls race, there were several very encouraging performances by our young runners.

What a wonderful performance from our Under 13 girls! Although they didn’t win their relay, they were the first ever team to finish second and third. The ‘C’ team also performed well to finish fifth. With Charlotte Edge, Sofia Cappelli and Olivia Sparks unable to take part it shows what tremendous depth the Valley have in this age group. Congratulations to the ‘B’ team who shadowed the ‘A’ throughout the race.

Skye put in a great performance in the under 11 1500m race and ran 19 seconds faster than last year when she was fourth. Our other under 11 girl, Farrah Ceric, finished 10th.

If there had been a team race in the Under 11 boys race, we would have won it comfortably. Reggie Rock had a great race to finish third. The other three boys, Louis Moore, Wilf Howard Vyse and Ollie Seraj finished sixth, seventh and eighth.

The under 13 girls were led off by Sasha Mueller closely followed by Skyla Robertson and they finished fourth and fifth. Analesse Schoenen was only 29 seconds behind them in seventh place. On lap two Thea Almqvist-Dutton was also shadowed by Anna Kelly who finished 12 seconds behind her as they moved up to second and third. Amelia Seaton also ran well to keep the ‘C’ team in seventh place. On lap three Katerina  closed eight seconds on Maya  but still finished third in the race. Charlotte Brown, our youngest 11-year-old brought her team home in sixth place. With six girls from TVH still in this age group next year, things look promising.

Our under 13 boys were all under 11 except Morris Rock. They had a great result and only lost their relay by seven seconds. Outstanding performance came from Cameron McConnon who ran the second fastest lap in the race and almost caught the leading London Heathside boy by running 20 seconds faster than him. Morris had got the team off to a good start when finishing third on the first lap. Rory McConnon returning after having glandular fever in the summer only lost a place on the second lap Then Cameron took off and almost made it. For the ‘B’ team Henry Turner did well for fourth place and an incomplete team had Dylan Bilboul on the second leg.

Our under 15’s didn’t do so well. The boys had Baqar Abamecha finishing sixth on the first lap, Nelson Gordon could not reproduce his training form and was slower than last year as was Basil Rock. But the ‘B’ team did better than expected. Andrew Schoenen was only three places behind Baqar. On the second stage Romadan Sharif ran well for his lap and Aidan Ferrand arrived in time to complete the ‘B’ team and ran nine seconds faster than last year and almost caught the ‘A’ team. For the Girls, Lily Dafter finished sixth on the first lap, with several incomplete teams Olivia Colegrave moved TVH up to third place but unfortunately Madeleine Casey slipped back to fourth. An incomplete ‘B’ team had Aramay Robertson finish eighth and Zenia Gordon, although running much faster than last year, was fifth at the end of stage two.

The under 17 women’s team had to make late changes as Sarah Kebbell was recovering from an injury, Melina Duer was drafted into the first leg and finished eighth in a strong field. Niamh Murphy was moved up into the ‘A’ team and ran the second lap. Charlotte Buckley was out to beat her age under 13 time but although she ran the fastest lap of her race, she was just a few seconds slower. The team came second, 46 seconds behind the winners. For the ‘B’ team we were left with only Capucine Rousset who ran the first lap solo. It was good to have Shami Umashankar running although he knew that he was our only u17. He is far from fit but he still came to support the club and was only 12 seconds slower than last year.
