KEN NORRIS

Ken joined Thames Valley Harriers in April 1948 and is now a life member and Vice President. He is a level 1 qualified field events official and level 3 qualified distance coach, plus a keen supporter of the club. During his running career, he has won over 150 cups and medals in 11 years of representing the club. He has represented Britain or England some 30 times on track, cross country and road - including the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956), where he was 5th in the 10,000m. In addition to this he has won the prestigious Saulo Paulo "Round the Houses" race on New Year's Eve 1955, had two 2nd and two 3rd places in the International Cross Country Campionships (limited to Europe only in those days), been British record holder on the track at 5, 6 and 8 miles and AAA 6 miles champion in both 1955 and 1956. Ken has also been the only man ever to hold 4 stage records in the London to Brighton National Road Relay simutaneously.
